Part 10 - The Poverty Gatekeepers
In the last section, Part 9, we did a deep dive into the numbers behind poverty today. Un-housed, working poor, and workers who will not qualify for homeownership, which is the cornerstone of multigenerational sustainability.
These groups cumulatively include 65% of our workforce. That’s 220 million people in the US alone.
These numbers, which are actual people’s lives, increase year over year. The human cost in terms of suffering, the drag on our economy, and the load on public services all escalate every year. Without change soon, key social structures will hit a breaking point. And like you mentioned in part 1, we all know that poverty at this level is unsustainable.
That’s why ending poverty in one generation is so important. As we gain ground, we can begin replacing systemic exploitation with systemic support, which in essence is the role of our Level UP Apps – providing paths to a better life – regardless of where and how we live.
Though relieving the unending pressure to just survive – previously excluded people (who compose more than 75% of the population) can become central to the work to bypass other exploitative systems and lead the world in projects such as environmental restoration and building a better foundation for coming generations.
Our mission “End Poverty in One Generation” engenders support from all sectors, public, private, and international. And is accepted across the political divide because we are non-partisan and are self-sustaining which means we can fund our solutions internally after this initial funding campaign.
As we’ve covered, your approach is to reverse-engineer existing systems to build Level UP Apps. These Apps enable poor people and low-income workers to bypass many of the long-standing obstacles that they cannot otherwise get past.
Can you give examples of some of your Level UP App solutions?
Yes - In this round of development 2023-2024, our first families of Level UP Apps will be completed.
These address or help people bypass many of the barriers within these three socioeconomic systems (categories):
1. Employment
2. Housing
3. Cost of Living
These socioeconomic systems manage how almost everyone accesses the necessities of a sustainable life. For example, work, housing, education, transport, food, healthcare, ownership of just about anything...
So – you are saying that these 3 systems are the gatekeepers – and if you have limited resources – they are not friendly?
Correct. We call them The Poverty Gatekeepers because their job is to selectively refuse entry to many who knock.
The first one “Employment” determines how we spend our working lives and what level of income we qualify for.
The second system “Housing” determines whether we qualify for a home or not – and then, what quality of home and where.
The third one “Cost-of-Living” determines whether we can access, and then how much we must pay for the other basics of living. These include everyday items such as food, transport, and childcare. But also necessities such as privacy, insurance, and healthcare. And finally, generation-transforming opportunities, such as access to education, a route towards savings and ownership, and support towards retirement.
Each of these are everyday systems we all use to advance in life.
Yes. And each employs the five tactics that profit from poverty to maintain and expand our working poor - and make their escape from poverty practically impossible.
How about a very quick review of these 5 tactics?
For sure. They start with “the degenerative cycle”, which society uses to convert people to consumables. And from there the specific tactics are:
Under compensation,
Economic impairment,
Opportunistic overcharging,
Rent seeking,
Social disinvestment.
I know you have several Apps on the drawing board that will assist people to navigate successfully through each of these areas - Employment, Housing, and Cost-of-Living, can we briefly cover one Level UP App for each?
Yes – let’s.
Just as a reminder, these Apps were developed through reverse-engineering these Gatekeeper Systems that are in place today – with the goal of building App tools that counter bias and bypass the barriers to individual progress.
Let’s start with Employment.
OK let’s do that in the next section, Part 11
Part 10 was a short section, and we covered:
Access to these three socioeconomic systems:
Employment
Housing
Cost of Living
These socioeconomic management systems control how almost everyone accesses the necessities of a sustainable life. For example, work, housing, education, transport, food, healthcare, ownership of just about anything...
They are known as the Poverty Gatekeepers which selectively admit or reject people based on often. arbitrary requirements or measurements.
These 3 areas are the focus of our First Level UP Apps that are designed and will be developed in 2024.
